Let go.....

"Your children are not your children
They are the sons and daughters of life's longing for itself
They come through you, but not from you
You may give them your love
But not your thoughts
For they have their own thoughts
You may house their bodies
But not their souls
For their souls live in the house of tomorrow
Which you can never visit
not even in your dreams"

- Khalil Gibran

How true! How we fail to realise or recognise this. We thrust our likes and dislikes on them, as if they are an extension of ourselves. We also hold ourselves responsible for every little thing they do or say, not realising they are living the paths chosen by them. Time we wake up, and stop distressing them, and in turn ourselves.

Hi Revathi,
Yes, we consciously or unconsciously transfer the burden of our aspirations and expectations on them, as though it is our 'birth-right' to expect them to behave and live the lives we want them to live...how sad...

Gayathri,

This is one thing every parents should read and realise. Now a days we are burdening them with a lot of expectations and expects to achieve everything through them. It is as if whatever we could not fulfill in our life, our childern have to do it for us. We must understand that they are different from us and their thoughts and aspirations about the future will also be different.
